Linking Existing Issues

Link existing Jira issues to BlameTrail incidents and sync status.

Linking Existing Issues

If a Jira issue already exists for an incident, you can link it instead of creating a new one.

Linking an issue

  1. Open an incident in BlameTrail.
  2. Scroll to the Jira Issues card.
  3. Click Link Existing.
  4. Enter the Jira issue key (e.g., PROJ-123).
  5. Click Link Issue.

BlameTrail verifies the issue exists in Jira and fetches its current summary, status, and assignee. The link appears immediately on the incident page.

Status synchronization

When a linked Jira issue's status changes, BlameTrail receives a webhook notification and updates the displayed status automatically.

Auto-resolve

If auto-resolve is enabled for your Jira installation, BlameTrail will automatically resolve the incident when the linked Jira issue moves to a "Done" status category. This is disabled by default.

Unlinking

To remove a link, click the x button next to the issue in the Jira Issues card. This only removes the link in BlameTrail — the Jira issue is not affected.

Linked issue display

Each linked issue shows:

  • Issue key — Clickable link to open in Jira (e.g., PROJ-123)
  • Summary — The issue title from Jira
  • Status — Current Jira status (e.g., "In Progress", "Done")
  • Assignee — Who is assigned in Jira
  • Link type — Whether it was "created" from BlameTrail or "linked" manually
